I wanted to see the difference of using other advisory "devices" & NoveList ... so, here goes ...

#4 in the Anita Blake series is The Lunatic Cafe
I found this book quicker on Good Reads vs. NoveList

Zombie craze ... try ...
NoveList also suggested Cheyenne McCray's Zombies Sold Separately (**)
 and ... Pride & Prejudice & Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith (*****)
and ... Zombie Lover by Piers Anthony (****)
The "*STAR*" rating is useful -- I would definitely start with the 5 stars vs. 2

Amazon ...
Married with Zombies by Jesse Peterson

This book is full of spiders: seriously dude, don't touch it. by David Wong

**  Besides utilizing Novelist, I also used Polaris/CDPL's OPAC, Fantastic Fiction (UK), Goodreads & Amazon.  It was fascinating to see what was "chosen" by the different tools.  I liked features of all.
I often read what I've "heard" about - this being from friends, Kirkus Reviews, library patrons & blogs.

  1. I like that you decided to compare your answers from NoveList to another similar site. It is interesting to see how even if you put in the same requests, you will get different books from different sites. This just goes to show how many different resources there are for us to use out there for us to help our patrons! Which site did you prefer for finding read-a-like sources? Which was easier to use and which did you think made better suggestions?

    1. Abby, as of now, I like Amazon or Goodreads or Fantastic Fiction just because I have used these more in the past. But, I was pleased with NoveList - there are wonderful features - like just clicking a button to see read-a-likes - what a valuable resource as far as that goes. It did slow me down at first because I had to figure out the "ins-n-outs." But, once I had a few erroneous searches I liked it tremendously! I'd say the actual suggestions were better on NoveList - but, I did notice that some of those authors aren't even in the library where I work. Of course, it is a medium, VERY conservative library - so, with that being said, the other suggestions are probably more valuable in the situations that will arise.
